IT Fundamentals

IT Fundamentals (ITF) is the only single certification that covers all areas of IT foundations. Students will learn about software, hardware, security, networking, and basic IT literacy. Students will prepare for the CompTIA IT Fundamentals exam, and thanks to our sponsor Dynamic Advancement, will get to test for free!

Mechanicode

The purpose of the Mechanicode Robotics class is to teach the students how to program micro-controllers to enable machines to interact with the world around them through sensors, motors, and buzzers. Additionally, this class reinforces computer coding fundamantals for students as they learn how to program and operate robotic devices.

Cyber Security

GhostWire Academy is a free Cyber Security class offered to teenagers (13-17). Students will learn about ethical computer hacking and how to apply those skills to defend networks and computer systems. Students will graduate the course with an elementary understanding of how to protect information systems and how to catch criminal cyber hackers! Topics covered:

  • Types of malware and how malware spreads
  • How to prevent and respond to computer viruses
  • Understanding how companies and individuals can be targeted for spear phishing and social engineering
  • Protecting personal information
  • Command line familiarization
  • Network traffic analysis using Wireshark
  • Computer forensics
  • Computer hardening techniques

Meet our team

  • Shaun Herron — President

    Master Sergeant Shaun Herron has served as a Non-Commissioned Officer for the US Air Force for over 18 years and is currently Flight Chief of Operations at the 33rd Network Warfare Squadron. Shaun has certifications in Sec+, Linux+, GCIH, and Forensic disk analysis as well as associate degrees in Advanced Electronic Concepts and Cyber Security.

  • Charles Hackett — Vice President

    Charles Hackett is Sec+ and GCIH certified, worked as a Network Analyst, and is currently working as a Security Operations Center (SOC) manager. He believes that the key to our Nation's future is ensuring that we are competitive in the digital realm and the only way to ensure that is to empower the youth of our Nation with the appropriate skills.

  • Justin Peikert — Treasurer

    Justin Peikert has served in the US Air Force for six years is Sec+ and GCIH certified, worked as a Network Administrator, and is currently working as a Network Analyst at the 33rd Network Warfare Squadron. He believes that giving children the opportunity to learn these cyber skills at no cost is the only effective way to ensure children can pursue their dreams of being cyber security professionals.

  • Austin Ellsworth — Secretary

    Austin Ellsworth currently works as an Incident Responder for the US Air force and has worked in Cyber Security and IT for over 10 years. Ellsworth currently has associate degrees in Applied Science Aircraft Maintenance and Computer Science. He is certified in Sec+, GCIH, and currently working on GCFA. He is passionate about IT Security and welcomes every opportunity to pass his skills on to the next generation.
